OLENTZERO LONDRESEN

Urtero bezala, Londreseko Euskal Etxeak Olentzero gonbidatu zuen. Ekitaldia Abenduaren hamaseian izan zen Oxford House-eko Chapel aretoan, eta adin guztietako jende ugari hurbildu zen, ehunetik ondo pasa gauan zehar. Elkarteko kideek aurreskua eta txalapartarekin ongi etorri zuten Olentzero, eta bere oroimenezko kantuarekin noski Horra, horra, gure Olentzero…. Ondoren, han zeuden haurrek pozik baino poziago jaso zituzten ikazkinak ekarritako opariak, batenbat edo beste pixkatxo bat beldurtu bazen ere bere aurpegi ikatz-zikinaz. Aretoan bildutakoek izugarrizko pintxo ederrak jan eta gero kontzertu bat entzuteko aukera izan zuten. Hain zuzen ere, elkarteko hainbat kideez osaturik, Emay taldeak musika bikain askoa jo zuen ordu pare batez. Eta bukatzeko gabon zozketa egin zen irabazleak ardo, txorixo, turroi eta zainzuriz otzara betea etxera eraman zuelarik.

OLENTZERO BACK TO LONDON

As every year, the London Basque Society invited Olentzero to come over and pay our kids a visit. The event took place December the 16th at the Chapel in Oxford House. Well over a hundred people of all ages turned up throughout the evening. Members of the association welcome Olentzero with a traditional dance, the sound of the txalaparta and the popular song which honours him. Then Olentzero offered presents to a bunch of happy but also expectantly wary children at the coal-dirty allure of the charcoal maker. After eating a variety of fantastic home made tapas the public had the opportunity to attend a great rock concert by Emay. Several members of the Basque Society play in this band which kept on performing over two hours long. At the end of the evening a full Christmas hamper was handed in to the merrily surprised winner.
